Cabrera Fiesta, 14 June 2008
Saturday 14th June was ‘fiesta’ time in Cabrera, an event that seems to become better established and more enjoyable every year.
This year we had all the usual things like the giant paella, postres competition (actually not a "competition" this time, but no less tasty) and free horse-rides for the children. There was plenty of music and dancing throughout the day, culminating as always with a big show band who played through to the not-so-early hours of the morning.
The Moors and Christians came up from Mojácar (just as soon as Spain's match in the Euro 2008 was over), the Julie Bruce Dance Academy put on a tremendous display in the heat of the afternoon and the arrival of the Classic Cars was a favourite with many people. Our thanks to ACC Levante whose older cars suffered with the heat as much as some of the dancers.
Down at Los Pastores there was an exhibition of paintings and local photographs, while in the lower part of the plaza there were plenty of market stalls to keep people amused. The bric-a-brac stall raised 3 times the sum of previous years.
Iain and Jill Ratcliffe were there with their cameras and caught the following:Hover on a picture to pause the slideshow, click for bigger photos
