Fire Precautions

The recent fire that occurred on the mountain very close to Cabrera has reminded us again of the ever-present risk of fire. As a result, the Junta has revised and re-issued the safety procedures in the event of a serious fire. You can find a copy on this page.

Cabrera Fiesta

The fourth annual Cabrera Fiesta was celebrated on 14 June 2008 in honour of San Pedro and Peter Grosscurth. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and the classic cars were a highlight for many people. At last we have got round to updating the Fiesta page with the latest photos and information. There are also more photos by Jill and Iain Ratcliffe in the Photo Gallery.

Opening of El Arco Bar

The new El Arco Bar (formerly Fatima's) opened on 19 May with a good turnout of residents and visitors joining in the opening party (some people can sniff out free beer from the other end of the village!). The tent has been refurbished, there are new tables and chairs and fresh paint has been applied. We wish Chris and Lola the best of luck. Everyone seemed to agree that it's great to see the place open again, and the centre of the village was buzzing.

Cabrera Open Gardens Day

Another great success on Sunday 20 April. See photos here.

Junta Surgery Meeting

The latest surgery meeting was held on 1 May. It was fairly short and uncontentious. A full report will be included in the next newsletter, but meanwhile we mention a couple of items of news that came out:
Apparently Fatima has a new tent on order and is expecting to re-open Fatima's bar in about two weeks.
We are advised that the company that bought the bowling greens is not going ahead with their plan for the aparthotel. Therefore the good news is that we will not be plagued by the noise and disruption of the building work. The bad news is that the area is unlikely to get much tidier in the near future.
The next surgery meeting will be held on 17 July at 5:00 pm in the community room above Los Pastores. (The date has changed again: if you put it in your diary, please be sure to change it.)

Spanish Property Capital Gains Tax Reclaim

If you sold a property in Spain between 2004 and the end of 2006 you could be entitled to reclaim thousands of euros from the Spanish Government. Are you entitled to make a claim?

Broadband

Telefonica have put in nearly everything necessary for bringing broadband and telephones to Cabrera. The area around the ranch road is expected to have working broadband within a few weeks.

Roadworks

The next stage of roadworks and new infrastructure is on-hold pending a new agreement with Turre Town Hall regarding the width of the road, pavement and other details. Check here for the latest (18 Feb) news.

Gas

Piped gas has been on the agenda for a long time and at last it looks like it will become a reality. More news here.

Cabrera Telephone Directory

The new Cabrera Directory has now been completed and copies distributed via the post boxes in the post room. If you haven't received one, you can get one from the Office. Our thanks to Trisha Meeks for her work in providing this helpful little booklet.

Road Plan of Cabrera

We have just added a plan showing all the roads in Cabrera, including their new names. For the moment it's just a basic plan but we hope to make it possible in the near future to automatically find a road or place, and to print off sections.

Sunset from Cabrera

2007 Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 23 November, with a generally satisfactory outcome. See an unofficial report on the Junta page.

Forum

The forum on this web site is being read by lots of people, quite a few have taken the trouble to register, and it has also attracted the attention of spammers. We have just tightened up our registration process to prevent the undesirables getting through, even though we already had a system for keeping all the drug peddlers and the like invisible. Remember that registration on the forum also enables you to post photos in the photo gallery and comment on those already there.

Villa Owners in Cabrera

Do you let your villa out for holiday rentals? Do you want to let more weeks during the year? Villas of Spain is a local business based in Cabrera that can promote your villa and bring you bookings. Contact info@villasofspain.co.uk.

Photo Gallery

We now have a new photo gallery system to replace the rather wonky old one. It uses the same registration as the forum so when you're registered for one, you're registered for both. Anyone can view the photo gallery but only registered users can upload their own photos (I hope you will!), comment, and have your own personal photo gallery here.

One-Way Roads

The roads to and from Los Pastores are "one-way". All motorists are requested to respect the rules and not drive against the flow.

Links Page

Our links page isn't a massive list of irrelevant tosh like you find on many websites. We only include links to websites that we think are genuinely useful to users of this website. If you know of others that should be included, please let us know.

Water Economy

Cabrera has plenty of good quality water for everyone, provided it is not wasted. We don't need to be mean with water, but please make sure that irrigation is only run when necessary and that pools are not allowed to overflow when they are being topped up. Also, if you are filling your pool, you must contact Antonio or Paco and follow their guidance on when to fill and at what speed. This is to make sure that the entire contents of the depósito don't end up in your pool, to the detriment of everyone else's water supply.

CCTV

The first CCTV cameras have now been installed in Cabrera. This system will provide comprehensive protection for the village with high resolution cameras with an infra-red capability, so they not only pick up vehicle registration numbers but will also provide a recognisable image of the driver's face. The recordings will be stored on disk for several days, until being over-written if there is no reported crime. So far, this is normal top-quality CCTV, but Cabrera has its own unique innovation: the output from the cameras will also be piped through the Espancom Cabrera television system. It may not make for the most gripping viewing, but it does mean than everyone on the system can get involved and do their little bit for the improved security of homes in Cabrera. Naturally, the junta will be putting up CCTV signs on the entrance roads to the village so the message will be clear to all potential miscreants, "We have you covered. Go somewhere else."
