Roadworks
To date (mid-Feb 2008) the progress of the installation of new instrastructure has only advanced from the bottom of the hill (Cortijo Grande side) as far as the entrance to the road to the ranch, plus the new roads that have been built in that area. The plans require main access roads to be 6m wide with a pavement, but there are many areas in Cabrera where this would be impractical, impossible or undesirable. However, with ayuntamientos throughout Spain under pressure to do things by the book, Turre will only approve the work and grant first occupation licences if things are done exactly to the plan.
Therefore, an "estudio de detalle" is being drawn up to gain agreement for deviations away from the basic plan. This is a big task and is going to take some time. Until the estudio de detalle is agreed and approved, no more progress will be made on putting the new infrastructure into the existing roads of Cabrera.
Where new roads are being created, the situation is somewhat different and the developers are putting in the new infrastructure and tarmacing the roads as and when appropriate.
The progress of laying the new infrastructure under existing roads is very involved as there are a lot of pipes and cable to go in. The attached diagram shows the quantity of tubes and material which are going under the road.
Each of these individual services also require concrete manholes and cast iron lids at occasional intervals. Once the work gets up into the village, not all these tubes and pipes will be required in all sections, though there may also be new complications caused by the workmen encountering existing infrastructure already under the roads.
As the infrastructure tubes and pipes are laid under the existing roads of Cabrera, it is intended that the road will be given a new coat of tarmac to ensure that the works result in a better road surface and not a deterioration.
