Summer-time in Cabrera is usually lethargic due to the constant high temperatures that give no relief. Last summer was no exception. For holiday makers who rent out properties here, the weather is ideal. Many of the villas either have their own pools or have access to a pool and some even find the energy to play a game of tennis. This is not against the rules of the tennis club and all are welcome to use the court, but this privilege is sometimes abused. People who rent villas must pay to use the court. Only the family and friends of residents who are tennis club members can enjoy the concessions that membership brings. The committee of The Cabrera Club de Tennis would therefore like to remind people who rent out properties to visitors of this ruling.

Instructions on how to use the court and how to pay are listed both inside and outside the court. The security code on the lock is known to members but the committee are seriously considering measures to initiate a new system during the month of August in the hope that non members who use the court pay their fees and leave the court in the manner in which they found it.

The Closed Tournament was held on Sunday 30th October 2011. This is the first time that Sybil has not organised the competition and it was with some trepidation that the organisers tried to fill her  footsteps. However their fears were unfounded as Sybil had left a thorough basis from which to work and the event went very well.
Although the day was sunny and cloudy, the rain held off and we reached the semi-finals after lunch.

In the first heat Julie Oliver and Roger Chambers played Janet Dimmock and Keith Sharp in an exciting match. Julia and Roger eventually winning  by 6 sets to 4.This was followed by an equally exciting match between Ann Willett and Richard Gardner who played Dorie Egelstaff and Mike Bear. Dorie and Mike won by 7 sets to 5.

The final was played between Julia and Roger against Dorie and Mike. The temperature had dropped by this time due to a cold wind blowing across from the Sierras but the spectators were warmed by the excitement of the final which resulted in Dorie and Mike winning with a score of 7 sets to 5.

An enjoyable day was had by all and our thanks must go to Margaret Arnup for her administrative work and to Richard Gardner for providing a formula for pairing in the semi-finals which everyone agreed was fair.
